Return on time to get repeat Kowalahs!

We spend time speaking with our Kowalahs to ask what makes a great booking for them, and what encourages Kowalahs to accept repeat bookings from families.  One of the top reasons is clear communication from parents around when they are due to come home.

It's just gone midnight.  The puddings have been cleared away and someone has just turned the volume up on the Sonos.  You really need to get back because you only booked the Kowalah until 12.30.  But its been ages since you caught up with your best friend and another glass of wine gets poured.  The taxi driver says he's running late anyway so you can push back to 1.30.  And what's the problem - your Kowalah is earning extra money so why would they worry?

This can be a common scenario on any night of the week, and in this blog post we want to share the other side of the story.

It's just gone midnight.  I'm starting to pack up my laptop and books.  The parents headed out at 7.30 for a dinner with some old friends.  They made the booking for 5 hours which works well as I can be back home for 1am - I've got work in the morning.  I hope they are back soon.

All of our Kowalahs pay special attention to the estimated duration that you select when you make a booking request.  Many of them are going on to other bookings, or have other jobs to go to the following morning - a 12.30am finish might be OK for them, but they wouldn't have accepted a booking finishing at 3am.

Consider the duration when you book

Always try to be realistic when making a booking - are you really going to be back at 10.30pm, or is it more likely you'll be there until past midnight?  You'll only pay for the time that you actually use, so if you do come back a bit earlier then you'll only pay for the shorter duration.  Kowalahs are deciding whether to accept your booking request or not based on this important information!

My plans have changed!

If you booked for four hours but you now have new information about an amazing DJ and dancefloor that are likely to extend your evening, then let your Kowalah know as soon as possible - we can extend your booking in the app and, if your current Kowalah isn't able to accommodate the longer booking we can arrange a replacement.

When your Kowalah arrives at your house, re-confirm the time you expect to be back with your Kowalah so there is no confusion.

I cannot leave this party!

If during a booking it is just too much fun then please text your Kowalah, ask them if it is OK to stay longer.  In most cases it is not a problem and just the fact that you have told them the change of plan will be fine.  But....if your Kowalah says they need you back when agreed, then please stick to the original plan and head home.

Think about the next time you need a Kowalah

Kowalah is a marketplace and it goes both ways.  You get to choose which Kowalahs you want to look after your kids, but the Kowalahs also get the choice of whether to accept your booking request in the first place.

Kowalahs can decline booking requests for a number of reasons, but one of the top justifications is they had a bad experience with parents coming back later than planned and either not being considerate, or even thinking the Kowalah should be happy because they earned some extra money.

Communicate and have fun!

Above all else, we want you to have fun - and this post is not about having to come home early, or leave a great party - but we do recommend communicating with your Kowalah ensuring that they have a great experience as well, so that the next time you launch a booking request they hit that 'Accept' button without a second thought!
