Kowalah Ratings - rewarding the best parents and Kowalahs

A great Kowalah Rating means more bookings in future.

A great Kowalah Rating means more bookings in future.

The Kowalah community is built on trust. Parents need to trust every Kowalah they welcome into their home, and just as importantly Kowalahs need to trust the families that they are heading off to look after.

In February we released Kowalah Ratings, enabling both parents and Kowalahs to rate each other at the end of each booking. We aggregate the ratings every user receives to create a Kowalah Rating represented as a number between 1 (poor) and 5 (amazing).

The Kowalah Rating helps:

  • Kowalahs to decide whether to accept a Booking Request from a parent

  • Parents to decide which Kowalah to select for their Booking Request

So, if as a parent you want to get the best Kowalahs responding, and as a Kowalah you want to get chosen regularly it pays to keep an eye on your Kowalah Rating and consider what might affect it.

How can Parents maintain a high Kowalah Rating?

Getting a great rating is easy - just be decent to your Kowalahs and follow these guidelines:

Parents with high ratings….

  • Communicate with their Kowalahs

  • Come back when they said they would

  • Let the Kowalah know if they will be back late

  • Don’t cancel at short notice

  • Confirm bookings quickly

  • Don’t cancel repeatedly

  • Focus the Kowalah on the children

  • Treat Kowalahs with respect

Parents with low ratings….

  • Don’t let Kowalahs know what is going on

  • Come back 3 hours after they said they would

  • Turn their phones off

  • Cancel with less than 24 hours notice

  • Run requests and never choose a Kowalah

  • Cancel regularly

  • Ask the Kowalah to wash, iron, tidy

  • Treat Kowalahs like staff/servants

The top two reasons Kowalahs highlight for providing a low Rating are cancellations and late returns.

Parents with low Kowalah Ratings will find it harder to get Kowalahs and will rarely get repeat Kowalahs.

How can Kowalahs maintain a good Kowalah Rating?

Kowalahs with high ratings….

  • Communicate regularly with their families

  • Arrive on time

  • Build great relationships with the kids

  • Don’t cancel at short notice

  • Accept bookings quickly

  • Don’t cancel repeatedly

  • Leave the house tidy/as they found it

  • Treat families with respect

Kowalahs with low ratings….

  • Don’t communicate with families

  • Arrive late

  • Spend time buried in their phone

  • Cancel with less than 24 hours notice

  • Don’t respond to requests

  • Cancel regularly

  • Create mess and don’t clean up

  • Don’t build rapport with families

Kowalahs with low Kowalah Ratings will find it harder to get bookings!

What are current Kowalah Ratings?

Since we launched Kowalah Ratings we’ve seen consistently high results which is great to see. Kowalahs themselves are averaging 5 (the top score) and parents slightly lower at 4.97.

Improving a poor Kowalah Rating

If you find you have a poor Kowalah Rating (anything under 4) then you should focus some effort on improving it in order to get the best experience with Kowalah.

As a parent complete successive bookings without cancelling and returning late.

As a Kowalah accept multiple bookings and deliver a great consistent service.
